About Encore
The Encore Community Music Association is a non-profit intergenerational organization for motivated and talented musicians of the community. In its origin, the ensemble was known as the Encore Orchestra, growing to encompass two complete orchestras with varying levels of ability. The ECMA has expanded once again and now includes a string orchestra, a symphonic band and a symphony orchestra. In addition to performing, the ECMA offers concerts, demonstrations and clinics with professionals, unique ensemble experiences and field trips to local performances and Broadway in NYC! Through the exchange of ideas and personal interaction, adults and children work together to create a musical experience that will last a lifetime.
Encore is truly "the best kept secret in Carroll County." (Tom Zirpoli, Columnist, Carroll County Times)
We invite you to join us for an exciting season!

The String Orchestra
Conducted by Kay Tippett, this ensemble is geared for the developing string player to introduce and refine skills needed for advanced orchestral music. Members will practice and perform a variety of music from classics to pop. Throughout the year, students will gain experience in the string and full orchestra settings. Audition Requirements: Scales & Arpeggios - C, F, G, D and chromatic; a prepared piece of your choice; sight-reading.

The Symphonic Band
Conducted by Les Douglas, this ensemble will provide an opportunity for the serious band musician to learn and perform quality band repertoire. This level will include advanced middle school students through adults. Throughout the year, some members will also gain orchestral experience by performing with the Encore Orchestras as well. Audition Requirements: Major scales through 3 sharps and 3 flats and chromatic; two brief selections of your choice - one demonstrating slow, lyrical playing, the other showing fast, technical playing; sight-reading.

Symphony Orchestra
Conducted by Elisa Koehler, this ensemble challenges the advanced musician to perform the traditional orchestral repertoire in the full symphony orchestra setting. Sample repertoire will include: Bizet's "L'arlesienne Suite No. 2", Beethoven's "Egmont Overture" and Gliere's "Russian Sailor's Dance." This ensemble will also accompany the winners of the Young Artist Competition. Depending on instrumentation of repertoire, some wind players may receive the opportunity to play in the Encore Symphonic Band. Audition Requirements: Major scales through 4 sharps and 4 flats and chromatic, minor scales optional; two brief selections of your choice - one demonstrating slow, lyrical playing, the other showing fast, technical playing; sight-reading.
The ensembles truly provide unique life experiences as adults and young people rehearse and perform side by side, all while playing great music!
The players are also drawn out of both ensembles to form chamber groups, whether it be brass or woodwind quintets, flute quartets, select string ensembles, or large woodwind or brass choirs. Players truly get a multi-faceted performing experience.
All ECMA ensembles rehearse weekly on Monday evenings from 6:45-8:45pm at West Middle School in Westminster. There is a $100/semester registration fee ($75 for add'l family members), which includes membership into the Carroll County Arts Council. Auditions can be scheduled throughout the year by appointment, based on instrument need. Please call 410-239-2300 for more information or to schedule an audition, or fill out this form.
