Students meet daily Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Westminster West Middle School, with the culminating concert on Friday evening, 7:00 p.m., at the Carroll Community College Amphitheatre.

About the Camp...
Last year, in an effort to support the local string programs, the Encore Orchestra (then known as the Western Maryland College Community Orchestra) developed a Summer String Orchestra Camp. This year, the Summer Music Camp will include a symphonic band as well as a string orchestra. Schedules throughout the week week will involve: full rehearsals, sectionals, small ensembles, music theory, music appreciation, and chorus. Students will have the opportunity to choose electives in composition, conducting, hand chimes, harp, guitar and exploratory instrumental instruction (learning to play a different instrument). Through small group and ensemble interaction, we will meet the needs of the various levels and diverse experiences of each musician. The camp will close with a final concert on Friday evening, June 18th, at the Carroll Community College Amphitheatre at 7:00 p.m.

Objective
Using appropriate pedagogical material, students will prepare a concert featuring a symphonic band and string orchestra. The addition of a symphonic band is new this year. Through small group and ensemble interaction, we will meet the needs of the various levels and diverse experiences of each musician. Schedules thoughout the week will include music theory, music appreciation, and chorus, with electives in: composition, hand chimes, harp, and exploratory instrumental instruction.

Eligibility
Greared toward middle and high school students with at least two years experience on his/her instrument.

Tuition
$125/person, which includes membership into the Carroll County Arts Council. Students must provide their own lunch.
